Senior Cloud Infrastructure Architect

Job Description

Arzeda is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Architect to be the key player in planning, leading, and implementing a cloud-based deployment and automation strategy for our computational biochemistry software stack and core services. The candidate’s responsibilities will be:

  • Designing and implementing a continuous delivery system spanning on-premise hardware and both AWS (EC2) and Azure clouds at a scale of thousands of instances.
  • Connecting the pieces of our software stack from build to production and creating a seamless end-to-end pipeline enabling high throughput computational solutions to biological engineering problems.
  • Developing algorithms for job scheduling and resource provisioning & allocation in our proprietary cloud meta-scheduler to optimize costs and resources.
  • Deploying and maintaining continuous integration and related build & release infrastructures to support software development, testing, and production systems.
  • Help educate the team in current best practices.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a BS in computer science or related field with 5+ years of industry experience and a proven track record in automation and continuous delivery or build and release engineering. Experience with Linux and at least one public cloud provider such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Compute Engine are required. Candidates should have experience with multiple technologies drawn from:

  • Container upkeep and deployment (Docker).
  • Configuration management and automation (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt).
  • A continuous integration tool such as BuildBot or Jenkins.
  • Software development using languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Setup and deployment of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Distributed version control tools such as Mercurial or git.
  • Experience building or deploying full-stack web applications.
  • DevOps and related software practices.

Scientist / Software Engineer – Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, & Metabolic Modeling

Job Description

Arzeda is seeking a full-stack computational scientist & software engineer equally at home with chemistry and biology to make significant contributions to our computational metabolic pathway design stack, Scylax™. The candidate’s responsibilities will be:

  • Developing algorithms to probe the entirety of biodesignable space for novel biochemical synthesis strategies.
  • Enhancing and improving the performance of Scylax™.
  • Connecting genomic and other biological data to computationally designed pathways.
  • Designing and implementing methods for storing and versioning large metabolic datasets.
  • Interfacing the Scylax™ toolchain with in-house biochemical databases.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will hold an MS or PhD in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with at least 2+ years of industry experience or postdoctoral study. Experience developing software in Python, C++, or Java is required. Candidates should have experience drawn from multiple aspects of:

  • Designing novel metabolic pathways or tackling organic retrosynthesis problems.
  • Developing software with a cheminformatics package such as RDKit, CDK, or the ChemAxon toolset.
  • Working with bioinformatics tools such as BLAST, HMMER, multiple alignment and other search methods to process and analyze genomic data.
  • Working with metabolic models, such as kinetic modeling, flux balance analysis or other COBRA methodologies, and whole genome modeling.
  • Using or developing with a relational database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Developing algorithms for operations over graphs, such as traversal and pathfinding.
  • Computational chemistry or studying small molecules in-silico (e.g. quantum chemistry, virtual screening, lead identification, 3D-QSAR)

Scientist – Computational Protein Design

Seattle, WA

Job Description

Arzeda is seeking an expert in computational protein design. The successful candidate will help plan and lead the design of key enzyme targets for both our internal product portfolio as well as our industrial collaborations. The candidate’s responsibilities will be:

  • understanding and critically reviewing existing enzymology, biochemical and structural data
  • analyzing and developing mechanistic models of enzyme active sites
  • performing the computational design of enzymes and proteins
  • participating in the development of novel design methodologies including automation and scale-up of Arzeda’s protein design platform

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, structural biology, computational biology, or related field. Excellent proficiency with molecular modeling and design packages, such as Rosetta, and visible track record in computational protein design are required. Proven experience in enzymology is highly desirable. Experience with computer programming or scripting (C/C++, Python) is highly desirable, but not required.
