Arzeda Ranks #5 in Biofuels Digest’s Annual “Hottest Technologies in the Advanced Bioeconomy” List

Arzeda continues to climb the annual rankings of world’s most widely read biofuels and biobased chemicals daily journal

SEATTLE and SAN FRANCISCO – (November  14, 2018) –Arzeda, the Protein Design Company™, has been recognized for the third time as among the top companies in the advanced bioeconomy in the annual rankings by Biofuels Digest, the world’s most widely-read bioeconomy daily. Arzeda was ranked Number 5 in this year’s 40 Hottest Technologies in the Advanced Bioeconomy list, one step above its number 6 ranking in 2017. Arzeda ranked number 27 on the list in 2016.

Arzeda’s higher ranking in the Hot 40 comes as the company’s technology attracts attention from the private and public sectors, as well as the broader scientific community. Last month the company announced a partnership with BP, one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, to use Arzeda’s protein design software and testing capabilities to develop novel enzymes and proprietary pathways for renewable chemical production. The company also announced a partnership with synbio peers Twist Bioscience Corporation, TeselaGen Biotechnology Inc. and Labcyte Inc. to build a state-of-the-art DNA assembly platform that will reduce the time and cost required to build genes encoding Arzeda’s designed proteins.

Arzeda’s tools are also developing cutting-edge processes for manufacturing advanced materials. In September, the Department of Energy awarded Arzeda $2 million to develop a cost-competitive bioproduct with  multiple industrial applications, including as a biofungicide and monomer to manufacture high-performance acrylic materials.

The Hot 40 ranking is not the only recognition Arzeda has received in 2018. In January, the company was named to the prestigious 2018 Global Cleantech 100, produced by CTG (Cleantech Group), a comprehensive list of private companies that are best positioned to solve tomorrow’s clean technology challenges. And in April, Arzeda was a finalist for the Innovation of the Year award presented by GeekWire.

The Hot 40 rankings, which recognize innovation and achievement in technology development, are based on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international selectors and from subscribers of The Digest. Nominations were made by Digest subscribers, and the ballot took place over the past 2 months.
